It's nice to see another Deviant from Cochran, but there are a few things you need to understand about Deviant Art before you commit to activity here.


First, you need to understand that all submissions on this website are the property of the original poster. In other words, if I were to build a wooden statue, you stealing it from me would have the exact same effect as you copying a deviation on this website and claiming it as your own.

Some artists allow the copying of their work for alterations or redrawings; but that work is still not entirely your own. If I made my own version of Tetris, I still cannot rightfully claim that I invented Tetris. Alexy Pajitnov and a partner of his did. I'm perfectly free to make my own version, but I shouldn't claim originality.

In the same vein, you are not rightfully entitled to take any picture that you did not make from scratch, with your own imagination and tools, and call it your own, original piece. I cannot stop you from doing otherwise, but it is at your own peril. The people that make the art may one day provide you the entertainment you crave, but that is impossible if they cannot even call their own work their own because someone else is claiming the same thing.


Second: Group- and self-portraits, at least the way you seem to have been composing them, sadly do not qualify as true art. Take a look at the many galleries all over the website. Look at my gallery. Look at Karil's gallery. Look at almost any gallery on this website and you will find deviations that can make even the most judgmental of art critics swoon in amazement. I'm sorry, but in my opinion your gallery does not contain art at the moment, only social photographs. Deviant Art is not a social site at heart and will never be. Facebook and MySpace are the websites for you, if that is in your interest.

Please heed my words. If you would like to start producing artful photographs, then I can give you advice, or else direct you to someone who is more qualified to give advice; as I am not a professional and do not claim to be. I only ask that you listen and make an attempt to try to improve. I cannot force you into anything; it is all your choice. If you take my advice now, trust me: you will reap the rewards in time.
